Chia Follansbee
I am primarily a multimedia artist. I combine different medium and material to show my unique perspective in art form. My recent work explores the relationship between digital technology and physical form through 3d hand printing, 3D printing, material manipulation and multimedia painting. By translating virtual designs into tangible objects, I explore my interpretation of space, structure, and materiality.
Using 3D printing allows me to build complex, layered geometries that are nearly impossible to create by hand. I am drawn to the tension between mechanical precision and the subtle, organic imperfections that happen during the collaboration of the different processes and my finalization I call crystallization. Interaction between different practice, processes and materials embodies the composition of my expressed concept. Each piece captures the moment of suspended animation where imagination transform into a physical matter and invites viewers to look closely at the boundaries between the what is and isn’t.

A series of six 3 dimensional wall art! Playful and interactive depiction of a fantasy habitat for vibrant tree frogs.
This was created on a 12 x 12 wood wall panel acrylic with paint, 3d creations and embellished with handprinted PLA crystalization method and hand painted metal discs.

Here is a collection that went on exhibit for the month of July 2026 at The Frame and Art Center. These wall art pieces are painted with acrylic paint and ink on wood panels. Each artwork features a designed, machine printed PLA, hand manipulated, undulating lines, that weave together. Accented with acrylic paint and ink and 3dpen hand embellishments called crystallization.
