Artist Statement

My practice interlaces memory, texture, and light. I approach painting as a way to translate silence into color, to hold momentary glows within a durable surface. Each piece is woven from layers of time — sketches, responses, and edits — until the composition breathes with a soft, confident presence.

Statement crest Portrait of the artist

The work invites close looking: to notice the grain of pigment, the way a line can glow, and how the edge between field and form can feel almost tactile.

— Chia Follansbee

“Texture is a memory made visible; light is a conversation between color and time.”
